Not surprisingly, speculative fiction readers and writers are often avid gamers. RPGs and CCGs; online and offline computer games; MUDs, MUSHes, and MOOs—we play 'em all. It's a wonder we find time to read, let alone write, with all these other wonderful distractions out there!

Below are links to some of our favorite gaming and game reference sites. General Gaming Info and Reference sites and newsgroups provide information on gaming in general, or have materials for numerous game systems, while the Player-Maintained and Official categories feature sites or newsgroups devoted to specific games or universes. (Official sites are those maintained by the game manufacturers or publishers.)

Oh, and be warned: gaming is the cyber equivalent of crack. Don't blame us if you get addicted!

Dungeon Crawler  Bimonthly gaming webzine

RPG Host  Large resource site, including roleplaying archives, site and product reviews, newsletter, contests, forums, more

RPGnet  Popular RPG site. Independent, but definitely industry focused and supported. Regular columns, news, interviews, reviews, links, and large archives of gaming reference, art, and humor material

  Official Game Sites

EverQuest  The biggest multiplayer online game in the world. They don't call it "EverCrack" for nothing!

Chaosium Games  Publishers of Call of Cthulhu, Elric!, Pendragon, and Nephilim RPGs

Magic:The Gathering  The original collectible card game, and still one of the most popular

Neverwinter Nights  Probably the closest thing in computer gaming to a live Dungeons & Dragons session. Can be played singly, in multiplayer mode on a LAN, or online. Fabulous graphics!

Wheel of Time  Popular computer game based on Robert Jordan's bestselling novels

White Wolf  Publisher of numerous games, including Dark Ages, Exalted, and Vampire:The Masquerade

Wizards of the Coast  Formerly TSR; publishers of AD&D and many other games. Probably the largest sf/f gaming company out there

Ultima Online  The first "virtual world" game, with hundreds of thousands of players. An addictive fantasy RPG

  Player-Maintained Sites and Newsgroups

Johann's Domain  Excellent reference site for the Vampire:The Masquerade game. Site is officially sanctioned by White Wolf publishing

rec.arts.sf.starwars.games  Newsgroup devoted to all aspects and forms of Star Wars gaming

Trolloc Wars/War of Power  Unsanctioned, BBS-based role playing set in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time universe, with two campaign settings. Also features a chat and OOC boards for general discussion
