People who really love speculative fiction also love to talk about it—at length. They also love to argue about it, theorize about it, and gossip about it. The sites below are some of the many places online where SF/F fans can get their news or gather in virtual communities. Not only can you keep up with all the latest genre news and speculation at these places, you might also make some new friends, or even find a spouse. Hey, it worked for us!

This section is divided into two main categories: News, Info & Discussion Websites and Science Fiction and Fantasy Newsgroups. The Websites section includes online versions of several professional print magazines in addition to non-commercial and personal sites. Please note: we are no longer carrying any links to the SciFi Channel, including Science Fiction Weekly (it has an independent editorial staff, but is still sponsored and hosted by scifi.com.) And yes, this is an editorial comment on their programming policies.

The Newsgroups section provides links via Google to various Usenet groups dedictated to discussing speculative fiction. It also includes a link to Google's Usenet Primer, which we encourage all newsgroup neophytes to review. Usenet can be very hard on newbies. Also, alt. groups in general tend to have higher noise-to-signal ratios (ie, more spam, flaming, and off-topic posting) than other heirarchies. Bear this in mind when voyaging through Usenet.

Click the links below for direct access to either section.

If you know of a good speculative fiction news, information, or discussion site and would like to see it added to this library, please send the URL to our link librarian.
