Call of Duty (CoD) is not just another first-person shooter (FPS) in the vein of Medal of Honor or Battlefield 1942. Rather, it's a totally unique look into the support positions during the raid on Normandy during World War II. CoD has you playing the part of 3 lower-ranking solders in the American, British, and Russian armies. During this 24-level extravaganza, you have to infiltrate a German seaport and blow up a submarine, clear an airfield of tanks while being bombed, and carry the Soviet flag to the top of the Reichstag to signal the Russian fleet you have taken the city.

The graphics alone are well worth the price of admission. Just as a small example of the sort of attention to detail in the game, bodies of the fallen litter on the ground. (You can also play with no bodies.) The musical score is also excellent, and gets you emotionally involved in the game. During the aforementioned Reichstag takeover, you'll hear some of most amazing compositions ever made for a video game, almost bringing a tear to your eye as the flag is planted and victory in Berlin achieved.

The gun arrangement is also a major step up from competing products, with the British Sten, the German MP44, and the Russian PPSH machine guns ready to aid you, along with a fine assortment of rifles and pistols. You can also pack these weapons to play against other gamers on the Internet or your LAN in Search and Destroy, Retrieval, and Deathmatch styles of play.

If you like FPS's, run, don't walk, to your local game store and pick up Call of Duty. It's going to be the talk of the gaming scene for quite some time, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were nominated for Game of the Year. Infinity Ward (recently purchased by Activision), the company who made the game, has made their initial effort a triumphant one, and I'd be doing the game a disservice if I gave it anything less than a perfect 5 headshots out of 5.
